AG Residence, The StruXi House

This house is situated on a rural allotment with views overlooking the Toowoomba city.  The design is successful in creating a graceful building mass that rises out of the natural site contours.

This modern dwelling is defined by three major roof forms located at the three main zones of the dwelling referred to as entertainment, living and bedroom wings.

Each roof appears out of a planter into a framed expanded mesh screen before solidifying and rolling over the main building mass.  The mesh screens act as a shading device and guttering system with an additional reticulated watering system allowing stored water to be pumped over the screen to cool oncoming summer breezes.

The extensive use of louvres and eco tinted glazing balances natural light and ventilation with controlling any unwanted solar heat gain.  Large apertures in the concrete wall panels open up extensive views.

The external entertaining area defined by the vaulted roof profile provides protection from the late afternoon summer sun.

The design was awarded the 2009 BDAQ regional award for “Custom Designed Homes over 450m2″ along with the 2009 BDAQ regional and state award for “Best Use of Colorbond Steel”.
