Warwick Solar

We were proud to receive the Best Public Building award at the recent Building Design Queensland (BDQ) State Design Awards.  This award is for the Warwick Solar Farm Visitor Centre that we designed for the University of Queensland in 2019.  This is an amazing accomplishment not only for our Client and StruXi, but mainly for Breearna, one of our young designers who took point on this project.

StruXi was engaged by the University to assist them with the design of their proposed visitor centre at the Warwick Solar Farm.  Owen saw this as a great opportunity to introduce Breearna to the role of project designer.

Breearna has been with the StruXi team since January 2016, starting with us straight out of school. Throughout the past five years, she has demonstrated herself to be an important part of the StruXi team. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Architecture through Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and will graduate at the end of 2022.

Breearna has experienced various roles within StruXi.  Commencing as building design cadet, she then accepted the position of technical & administration assistant. This role provided her insight to another part of the business. It educated her in understanding how budgets, timelines and design briefs came together and affected the entire design process. Knowing this side of the job better prepared her to become the designer she is today.

As her studies progressed, it became more important to have a hands-on design role and her interest has become focused on people centric design of commercial spaces.  She first discovered this interest while assisting Owen through the design process for the Australian Industry Trade College Ipswich campus.  When the opportunity to design the UQ Warwick Solar Farm Visitor Centre presented, we decided it was time for Breearna to lead a project.  Great result. Since then, she has continued to take on a guided design leadership role within the business.

Breearna has an edge when it comes to a challenging project.  She is determined when it comes to finding ways to make the Clients vision come to life.  Owen noticed her determination and interest in these projects, and decided that he would provide her more opportunities to explore her passion. Breearna recently worked closely with our Client to produce an outstanding result for the Antara Studios redevelopment of 299 Ruthven Street.

With minimal assistance from Owen, Breearna is currently managing the design for a major renovation at Fitzy’s Toowoomba, UQ Boyce Gardens and the Glenvale Christian School masterplan.
